Carrick Bends...

Both of these are examples of the Josephine Knot, also known as a Carrick Bend, Sailor's Knot and Anchor Bend. I made the one in black as a paracord bracelet and the doubled one in black and neon green as a choker, but it could also be used as a bracelet, belt, strap, etc.

They have a loop on one end and a knot to fit thru the loop, on the other end. I'll have to see if I can figure a neat/clean way to use a buckle on 'em.

Love your work, and would love to get some tips on making the all black sinnet on the right.

Thanks,

Franzi

Here are a couple of online links that might help show how it's made, just scroll down on those pages for the "Josephine Knot":

For the black paracord bracelet I made, I started with about an 8 foot piece of paracord, find the middle, tie a knot(overhand knot will do) so there's about a 1/2 inch loop above the knot in the center of that length of cord. From there you use the two cords to make the Josephine knots, you can put them close together or space them out. When you get the desired length, tie an overhand knot or a lanyard knot, and that'll fit thru the initial loop as a means of securing the bracelet.

A bit tricky to tie as sinnet - I can make the one, but the series get a bit confusing at first. It's coming, but will have to practice a bit.

Thank you for the explanation.

Very kind of you.

Could you help me with a tip how to prevent the sinnet from turning into a spiral? Seems the twist becomes very pronounced after about the 4th or 5th "knot" is added to the chain.

You have to make sure the cord isn't twisted in the previous knots or it'll lead to the whole series of knots to want to twist. After you make a knot, go back over it and work out any twists in the cord and that should alleviate the problem.
