Zippo lighter with a 6L5B Turk's Head knot

I used about nine feet of 1.4mm braided nylon cord for this 6 lead 5 bight Turk's head knot on one of my Zippo lighters.

A good diagram for this knot can be found in Stuart Grainger's 'Creative Ropecraft'.

3D knot work...

I added a couple of crown sinnets with black paracord, using the holes from the green paracord cross transitions(Cross of Lorraine), to make a more 3-dimensional paracord lanyard/fob.

Paracord 'Cross of Lorraine' ‡

A couple of folks had asked me last year if I could make a paracord version of the ‡ Cross of Lorraine, after I'd blogged about learning to make a regular paracord cross. I figured out a way to do it and here's my second attempt used as a pocket knife fob.

With my first attempt, I couldn't remember if the longer cross arms went above or below the shorter ones, so I just guessed without looking it up, and of course I messed up and made the first one backwards...

The correct way(20th century version) is with the short arms on top, long underneath, like a Patriarchal cross. Although the ancient Cross of Lorraine version had the arms the same length. There are also other variations according to the Wikipedia entry.

The top and bottom sinnets of the cross are made the same as the regular paracord cross. Then I took four more strands of paracord and tied a crown sinnet near the center of those strands, using four from one end with the four from the top part of the cross to make the short arms, and then the other four strands from the center section to make the lower longer arms with the bottom of the crosses four strands.

Luggage handle wrap...

I used a length of neon paracord to wrap the handle with a 16 lead 3 bight Turk's head knot on this piece of luggage. It makes it easier to identify your own bags when among so many other similar ones at the airport.

There's also a diagram for tying this knot in 'The Complete Book of Decorative Knots' by Geoffrey Budworth.

*The links to the KHWW site no longer work since that website is gone, so I've removed them and updated this post with a link to my video tutorial for the long 4 bight Turk's head knot, which starts off with the long 2 bight knot, and either of those will also work for a nice handle wrap on a bag/pack/luggage.

Coast LED flashlight wrap and lanyard

I've had this small Eddie Bauer/Coast flashlight for awhile and because it doesn't have any texturing/knurling on the head or body, it wasn't easy to twist on/off one-handed. Adding a Turk's head knot helps.

I extended one of the bights of this 'long 3 bight turks head', made with 1.4mm nylon cord, for use as a wrist lanyard. I added the Solomon bar/Portuguese sinnet over that single strand.

There's almost 12 feet of cord used in the TH knot and close to another 10 feet for the wrist lanyard.
