Another 'Stitched Solomon Bar' bracelet...

With football season starting up it's time to show the team colors. I made a smaller/thinner version of the 'Stitched Solomon Bar' with orange 3/32" tether cord from County Comm for the core strands, attached to a 3/8" side release buckle, and went over that with 2mm blue braided nylon cord from ebay. War Eagle!

The finished size is about half the thickness/width of the paracord bracelet version.

And a 'Stitched Solomon Bar' paracord watchband...

This one looks awesome! I just recently began making 550 cord bracelets, and other stuff you post on your blog. I have now successfully covered most of my gear in 550 cord using your posts. I am currently in Afghanistan, and am very limited to supplies and such, but I have been able to find about 4 colors of 550 cord and some clips off old uniforms and random items around the shop. I tried ordering from county comm and found out they don't ship to FPO/APO. I am on your site almost daily now, so if you saw a recent spike in viewers its probably because I'm on every chance I get. I've also been refering every marine I know to your site. Thanks for sharing your work with us!

@Dan, Thanks, it's not quite Auburn University's navy blue, but close enough for me. Ma & Pa both went to AU.

@Anonymous, Thank you for your service and stay safe over there. County Comm's got a lot of neat stuff, so have a friend or family member stateside order for you and then forward it to your FPO/APO. Semper Fi!

War Eagle from Marietta, GA. Love following your blog. Wish I had hand dexterity and patience to do some of this knot work.

You had the same idea as I did, I tied a red and white Stitched Solomon Bar bracelet for a football post as well but I decided to wait until the white side release buckles came in the mail to publish it. Oh well, it will be out in a couple of days - RTR!!

@SyberProdigy, The Roll Tide fans in the family always want something made for them too. ;)

Where can I get one of these all black? Do you sell them?

Stormdrane said...

@ontherxs, I don't sell them, but you can probably find someone on ebay, etsy, or artfire that does. I recommend folks get some cord and give making their own a try. ;)

I've trying to do this with some type I paracord, but it is giving me fits. It is so floppy it just comes out looking horrible. Besides getting different cord, do you have any advice?

Stormdrane said...

@cwilson2187, Try to make sure each knot is tied consistently, pushing them up against the previous knots before tying the next one. If that doesn't work, try using different core strands that are sturdier/stiffer to knot around.

Hi Stormdrane love the blog I would love to have a go at the Stitched Solomon Bar bracelet but was wondering how you attach the buckles. Is it similar to your other braclets with slide buckles.

Hope you are able to reply.

@MarkD, Yes, the paracord goes onto the buckles just like other paracord bracelets that use a two strand core to be knotted around. I add about 1 inch to my wrist size when figuring the bracelet length for a comfortable fit using the 'Stitched Solomon Bar'. YMMV ;)

Thanks for the great tutorials. I love the blue and orange with the narrow cord. I want to make one for my son in black and red. I understand how to attach the buckles when using a single strand, but how to you switch colors from the orange to the blue? In other words, how do you finish the orange and then start the blue?

Stormdrane said...

@Rex, I attached the orange to one buckle end, ran it through the other buckle, figured for wrist size, then tied a square knot back around the orange core strands, and sew, melt, or glue the orange ends in place.

From there I just used the blue cord to knot around the orange core strands from one end to the other, and finish with sew/melt/glue on the ends again.

Thanks. I made one for my son this morning in red and black. I decided to lash the ends of the red core cords together on the underside of the bracelet instead of using a square knot. It worked out pretty good and it might be less bulky.

This was my first attempt at a p-cord bracelet and I think I'll have more even knots next time around.

Hey SD - I was wondering if you could help me - I'm looking to do some paracord products myself, mostly for personal use, and I love the looks of the Survival Straps shackle and adjustable counterpart for it, as opposed to the standard homemade ones that only use the shackle and the paracord itself.

I was wondering if you knew where I might be able to get something to perform the same job that their pieces do. Thoughts?

Stormdrane said...

@Iggy Junior, I'd guess that the adjustable parts they had made were custom done just for them, and aside from getting some lengths of similarly sized/shaped material, and drilling out a few holes, I don't know of any place that sells those already made...

Unfortunately I suspected that. Thanks, SD. I love your work, by the by, you gave me a bunch of ideas for projects.

I just tied my own watchband on a Timex Expedition, using OD core and black. Looks awesome, thanx for the idea!
