Another Maglite grip...

I tried another 16 lead 3 bight Turk's Head knot with black 550 paracord and 1/8" Cool Glow Stuff cord on this 2C Maglite LED flashlight. I tightened it over the knurled section of the light so it won't move around.

Perfectly cool, and so useful.

Not only is it good for a standard grip. In Law Enforcement, many police officer place their flashlight under their arm near their arm pit to hold the light freeing their hands. This turks head would allow extra grip and minimize slipping.

Hey Storm, you should do a video on this one when you get time for all us knuckle draggers.

Ditto the previous comment, but not just for knuckle draggers, but for us folks that don't have access to the knotting books yet. In your spare time Storm, please?? :)

i am a big fan of your work. i check your blog everyday to see if there are any new developments. i wonder if you could tell me where you get your ball bearings. i've googled it, but all i turn up are ball bearings in bushings. i can't find anyone with just plain ball type bearings. thanks!

I may make a tutorial for the 16L3B TH, but I need to work on it till I can get it down to under 10 minutes(youtube limit). It takes about that long for me to make one pass and keepin it straight and all.

Ball bearings and wooden balls for monkey's fists and turk's head cores can be found on ebay from seller toolsupply.

p103 of the 16x3 t.h. The book says to make 3 rounds from left to right, return u-o-u-o-u understood, now, not understanding> when you return the diagram in 2b appears to display an o-u-o-u-o ; however the books description at this point tells you to use opposite tucks o-u-u-o-o-u-u-o-o. This part confuses me because thats too many over and under moves for the figure 2b or im reading into it too much there. CAN ANYONE HELP? (sorry for the lengthy comment)

After you've made the three turns(working to the right) and do the u-o-u-o-u(back to the left), now you're going back to the right(to the right of the standing end) o-u-o-u-o, and now back to the left o-uu-oo-uu-oo and another under, then back to the right, u-oo-uu-oo-uu, and from that point you lock it in doing over and under sequence back to the left and can follow along the standing end to complete that last bight and then double/triple it.

It can be confusing with following the book, but when you finally 'get it', it's like solving a puzzle.

The time consuming part is making the additional passes, keeping the cord from twisting and tightening it up.

Thank you, that is a big help Stormdrane!

thanks very much for getting back. as a scout knots were my favorite thing but i never thought of using them for decorative purposes. i'm making my wife some ocean plait mats for the table, and i'm starting a welcome mat out of a used climbing rope. actually what are some good tips for tightening the mats up? thanks again. looking forward to more interesting and creative knotwork from you!

How is it that you got the glow-in-the-dark cord through? I can't seem to change colours without adding extra bulk to my THs

I made two passes with the black paracord first, with enough slack to allow another pass with the glow cord between them. Then I tightened up the knot.

I try to make the first pass larger than I think I'll need, which leaves enough slack for multiple passes. You can always work the slack out, but if you didn't have enough when you started, you'll have to untie and just start over, making the first pass larger the next time.

Hey you say that you used 1/8" Cord, but you link to the 3/32" paracord. Which one is it?

Much appreciated

Stormdrane said...

Either size of the glow cord will work, since they're both close to paracord's diameter. The smaller size works better when used with gutted paracord and the larger with non-gutted paracord.
