So many of them look similar that it can be difficult, even with having the Ashley Book of Knots as a reference, with it's 3900+ knots, I still can't figure out some just by looking at a photo.Stormdranehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04291715625908183030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17884734.post-17983149543417030742007-09-19T07:35:00.000-04:002007-09-19T07:35:00.000-04:00I apologize for being such a dope. You work from one end taking just a little bit of slack out and follow it completely thru the fist from one end to the other. You may have to do this several times until you can no longer work any more slack out. It can be slow and time consuming, but it keeps the cord from getting twisted, uneven, overlapping, and tangled. The finished fist should look even all around when finished. Sometimes I mess it up, it's ok, I just untie it and do it over, patience is definately necessary in tying knots.Stormdranehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04291715625908183030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17884734.post-1973539583408157082007-06-11T14:35:00.000-04:002007-06-11T14:35:00.000-04:00I don't think my other post went in.so how do you ...I don't think my other post went in.so how do you tighten the fist?thanksAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17884734.post-49240292032638814052007-06-11T14:21:00.000-04:002007-06-11T14:21:00.000-04:00I usually use small marbles, wooden balls, and som...I usually use small marbles, wooden balls, and sometimes ball bearings for the center of the monkey fists. You can also tie a knot at one end of a piece of cord you're using for the fist and use that as the center, or use a wad of paper or plastic.Stormdranehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04291715625908183030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17884734.post-9827141588706593522007-06-11T14:19:00.000-04:002007-06-11T14:19:00.000-04:00I can get the basic shape for the monkey fist but ...I can get the basic shape for the monkey fist but I can't seem to tighten it,is there a trick to this?do you put a ball in the middle of it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17884734.post-15402419749431173652007-06-07T11:16:00.000-04:002007-06-07T11:16:00.000-04:00I used the 3/32" size for the monkey fists. It probably would make good tie downs and be visible to avoid tripping if you had a late night need to leave the tent.Stormdranehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04291715625908183030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17884734.post-83762902570172221002007-06-07T11:01:00.000-04:002007-06-07T11:01:00.000-04:00I think your right, they do look like golf balls.Y...I think your right, they do look like golf balls.

You may have mentioned this somewhere else but what size are you using?
How long does it glow for?
