Lanyard/wrist strap made with 2mm cord on a 4-peg spool

Two-tone spool knitted lanyard/wrist strap in light green/black(charcoal) cord made on a 4-peg spool.

I put swivel clips on each end, finishing with snake knots. The 4-peg spool gives a square shaped braid, but I did it loosely so I could flatten it out some.

Works well as a key chain lanyard, or for pocket knives, multitools, flashlights, or even as a wallet chain type lanyard...

I've drilled multiple holes in the spool so that I can pull the nails out and reconfigure for use with 2, 3, or 4 nails. The spool has a Turk's Head knot in neon green paracord and I followed it around a couple of times with a 1mm black cotton cord.

If I add a side-release buckle, it can be worn as a bracelet...

  1. How did you start your 4 peg spool using TWO cords?

  2. Hi
Very impressed -I cant figure out how you did it either. How do you work two cords on 4 pegs so they come out as two coloured braid - got me foxed- can you explain - please.

  3. Work one color on two pegs and the other color on two pegs across the first. Alternately work each color on it's two pegs. Just take turns working each color, one over the other. Hope that makes sense.

I saw a four pronged 'lucet', for using two colors, and just did the same procedure on the knitting spool.

  4. Great stuff. I get a lot of people landing on my site searching for paracord projects. I'm going to link to you so they might find what they're after. Would you consider cross-linking in your blog roll?

  6. I'm astounded at your endless creativity.

Regarding the spool; where do you get them? I was at a craft store and they had wooden items but not like that one.

The way I learned to use a knitting spool, the finished work goes down through the center. Do you get paracord to go through that tiny hole in the spool your photo shows??

  7. I found the wooden spools I used at a Michaels craft store.

I used a 3/8" drill bit to enlarge the center hole, which is fine for pulling the thinner cord, that I usually use, thru the hole as I work.

  8. Interesting. I was hoping for more of an interweaving of the colors than side-by-side. But I like it! I'm gonna have to poke around with it. Thanks!

  9. @hw, A Facebook friend, in the Parachute Cord Crafters group, put up a photo tutorial on tying two colors on a three peg spool.
