Some knot work on a few Zebra F-301 Compact pens. I keep one of these on my key chain, so I always have a pen handy. I remove the pocket clips and add split rings to the top where there's an attachment point for them.

The white with the spiraling half-hitches was made with 0.9mm cord with a couple of 5 lead 4 bight Turk's Head knots. The others have 1.4mm cord in a long 3 bight Turk's Head knot.

And a couple more long 3 bight Turk's Head knots on Zebra F-701 and F-402 pens.

  1. Where do you get that type cord, I believe your refer to it as 2.4mm cord? I am aware of paracord and the glow cord you use. Your stuff looks great. I've found your post useful to me as a new cord wrapping junkie, some of it like the 3 bit many lead turks heads are still a little over my head.

  2. I've used 0.9mm and 1.4mm for the pens.

You can get the smaller type cord from ebay(0.9mm - 2.4mm braided nylon cord from seller 'mowfugger'), or call R&W Rope Warehouse (800) 260-8599 and tell them what you're looking for, and they'll be glad to help.

  4. Your stuff looks brilliant
I wish i could learn to do stuff like that, or at least i wish i had the patience to! How did you get into doing all of this?
I love artwork and i paint but i would love to get into other artsy things.

    What you do is brilliant!
    Thank you!

  5. Thanks. :) A lot of the knot work that I learned as a kid in the Boy Scouts, was dealing with working knots and lashings used to secure items, tie things down, and build things like camp furniture, bridges, even a tower.

I'd seen decorative type knots used for lanyards and fobs over the years and when I bought a knot book several years ago that had a few in with the working knots, it got me interested again.

Since then, I've searched the internet, forums, and bookstores for reference material to learn from and it's been an addictive hobby. Most of the things I've made are not difficult to learn with a little patience.

  6. Good day Stormdrane,I'am doing your .9mm cord wrap on a pen of my mom's and tightening the 5l4b the first time around was easy cause as you know everything is on the out side,What tool do you use?I have the small stylus but can not get in there to get a hold of the cord.Thank you Stormdrae.Scot

  7. @Scot, I use one of my clay stylus tools with a very fine tip to work/tighten up knot work with 0.9mm cord, it's like a needle with a small ball at the tip.

If you don't have one that small, you could use a long heavy duty sewing needle as an improvised miniature marlinspike, just blunt the tip so you don't stick yourself as you work with it... ;)
