Paracord belt key keeper

I used about 8 feet of paracord for this belt key keeper. I started out as I would making a paracord bracelet(without a buckle), measuring about 6.5" from the center of the cord where I start knotting.

Bring the ends together and run the working ends thru the loops at the starting end.

Then tie a doubled lanyard knot. Now you take one of the two ends coming from the lanyard knot and pull it back out of the doubled knot and follow it with the other working end, and that creates the loop.

Follow it back about 3 turns and tighten the knot up, trim and tuck the ends to finish.
When you make your own key keeper, you can use whatever type clip you want and make the loop longer/shorter to fit your needs.

The swivel clip I used was scavenged off a lanyard that came with something else years ago, so I do not have a source for it(mass lanyard manufacturers probably carry it and you may find similar by googling for it).

If the doubled lanyard knot seems a bit complicated, you can try other variations to finish. I've done a couple more with the 'Solomon bar/Portuguese sinnet/cobra stitch' and snake knot. Round/square crown sinnets could also be done and I'm sure there are other variations that someone could figure out to try...

  4. I'll admit, I'm a noob. I really want to try one of these today, and I see how you do it all except how to "start" it without a buckle, ring, etc.

  5. Try this tutorial for the paracord bracelet without a buckle. The key keeper is a bit shorter than a bracelet would be and when you bring the ends together, you can try various methods to finish with adding a clip/snap hook, swivel, etc...

  7. how do you tie the double lanyard knot? I can do the lanyard but how do you double it? is it in "the complete book of decorative knots" by budworth?

  8. There's a tutorial for the doubled lanyard knot on the Knot Heads World Wide website and I've followed the one in Peter Owen's 'The Book of Decorative Knots'.

  11. @Webmaster, it's tied just as described in the blog post, like a paracord bracelet without a buckle. There's a link for that in my links list.

Start tying the cobra stitch/Solomon bar/Portuguese sinnet, then when you have enough length to fold it over to fit your belt, run the working ends through the starting end and work the cords around the attachment clip and finish with a knots back around the strands. There are many variations on finishing, just find one that's easiest for you.
