Mora Robust fixed blade with paracord retention loop...

Here's a paracord retention loop added to my Mora HighQ Robust fixed blade knife.

I used a short length of paracord run through the slots on the pocket clip section of the molded sheath, and tied a two-strand Matthew Walker knot, with an added turn for a slightly lengthened/extended knot, to snugly slip over the knife handle, to help secure the knife in the sheath.

The knife fits in the sheath with friction and stays well enough on its own, but having the loop for retention just adds peace of mind that it will stay put.

I plan to eventually add some paracord to the sheath along with a firesteel, possibly a ranger band, and maybe drilling a hole in the knife handle to allow for a wrist lanyard too.

Lots of folks like to modify their Mora sheaths, some going further with making their own kydex or leather replacements or buying one from a custom maker, although the sheath may end up costing several time more than was originally spent on the knife.  I've read enough comments and reviews on Mora knives to see that many view them as worth much more than what they paid for them... ;)

  1. Stormdrane, this is a clever idea. I think I'll do this to all my Mora's. Simple, and looks like it works! ;-)

    Peace,
    Manny.

  4. @Anonymous, Aside from buying paracord from my local Army/Navy surplus store, ebay, & the Supply Captain, I recommend Our School Spirit, Army Universe, and Rothco through Amazon.com.

  6. David:

I checked those places you mention for parachute cord. The quality and colors look very good. I also like the fact that are made in the USA. ;-)

    Peace,
    Manny.

  7. Pure Swedish steel from the depths of the First region of Sweden, Dalecarlia on English and Dalarna on swedish. My home region. Can give you all a tip on a really good knife from Moraofsweden. The knife is a allaround knife developed especially for the Swedish Armed Forces. It's called Mora 2000, the only knife you need to own!

Over and out from Borlänge, Dalarna, Sweden.

  9. @rigger, You can try the ABoK, but I dunno if you'll be able to make heads or tails of it.

If only Grog had a 4 strand version like the good 3 strand one...
