I used two strands of paracord, black and olive drab, and from the middle of those I worked with the four strands doubling up the snake knot and used a completion stitch at the end.

That looks really cool and you'll have plenty of 550 to tie your knife (cold steel? nw ranger?) to a spear if you ever needed to.
